Q
Who can benefit from working with Family Central?
A

Any family facing a transition or period of adjustment that triggers changes within the family unit; any family who may have recently been given a diagnosis or is in the assessment phase, whether it be a health, mental health and/or educational issue.

Q
Why use Family Central?
A

We have a unique family-centric approach. We take into account that major life transitions affect individual family members and the family’s dynamics as a whole. Using this approach, we guide our families through challenging crossroads to make the most well-informed and thoughtful decisions.

Q
What makes Family Central unique?
A

We are trained professionals who are also parents. This combination brings with it a unique and valuable perspective to our interventions, both supportive, therapeutic and practical. We truly understand the complex challenges our families are faced with. As a result, we structure our practice in an accessible and extremely supportive manner, both family-focused and directed towards solutions.

Q
Do you make referrals to a particular institution or specific group of experts?
A

We assess each individual situation and refer to a broad range of institutions and experts. We are unbiased and have knowledge of different and varied specialists.

Q
How many hours can we expect to spend with Family Central?
A

Every situation is unique. We spend as much time as we feel will be beneficial to the family. Some families see us for one or two sessions, others may engage us for ongoing support while other families may check in with us periodically, depending on what issues arise and the amount of support they feel they need. As an example, developmental changes or periods of transition such as changing schools, a separation or family loss may warrant extra support.

Q
Are your services covered by insurance?
A

Our consultations are not covered by insurance. We do not diagnose, therefore we are unable to give a diagnosis code, which is required for insurance reimbursement. The referrals we make may be covered by insurance.

Q
Do you make home visits and or school visits?
A

We feel in certain situations, it can be helpful to see the child in their real world environment. If it will help the child and family, we will suggest and offer this service.

Q
Do you work with the Board of Education?
A

We will help our families work with the Board of Education as part of the navigation role we provide. We are knowledgeable with the IEP process and provide guidance and expert advice.

Q
What are your hours of business?
A

We are flexible and make every effort to accommodate our families’ schedules, which we understand can be demanding. We also Skype and do phone consultations.

Q
Do you work with the child and the family?
A

We support the entire family and welcome the opportunity to work with as many members as warranted by the presenting problem.
